Design Vision was featured in an international publication! The original article is in Spanish, and although I needed Google Translate to read it, it tickles me to death to be mentioned in the iconic brand magazine, Elle Decor. I heard that the magazine loves to feature pets in their articles and Guv’nor is the perfect model.
Elle Decor aptly points out that in Spain, a house built in 1911 is not something out of the ordinary, but it is in the city of Watertown, Massachusetts, where this house is one of the oldest in the town. And, it holds a lot of history having housed both a famous graffiti artist in the 1980’s and even a dentist’s office when it was first built.
The art collection is truly the centre of the home, with each piece having a story to tell, and all the works serving as a reference for the same décor.
For example, I love how this chandelier replicates a nest for the stork in this painting by Eloise Brouder.
Grusby Woodworks did a fantastic job crafting these custom cabinets, painted a delectable shade of blue…but wait, there’s a secret inside some of them: Walnut!
Doesn’t this dark walnut drawer filled with goodies make your mouth water for an espresso?
The clients wanted their home to be a sanctuary for both relaxation and contemplation of their art collection, which include pieces from emerging artists in Italy, Canada, Japan and the United States, and bring color, life and interest to each room.
Who’s that checking out the gallerie d’arte? It’s our little girl, Prudence who insists on jumping on all of the furniture (insert gasp!).
In the master bedroom, I love the way the rippling water continues out of one painting and into another by Japanese artist, Riusuke Fukahori. And, if you hadn’t noticed, the zig-zag Missoni bedspread mimics the painted ripples (these are the things designers obsess over!)
All photography work was done by my fabulous photographer Lara Kimmerer.
