In this rural home surrounded by forest, we saw an opportunity to create more than a beautiful bathroom. We wanted to design a space that felt like a quiet ritual — a place where light, texture, warmth, and nature could come together in a deeply calming way.
By replacing the divided window with a new picture window, we opened the soaking tub area to the trees beyond and created a stronger connection between the interior and the landscape. The tub, steam shower, heated floors, and floor-to-ceiling tile all contribute to an immersive spa experience that feels both luxurious and earthy.
Our clients were drawn to materials that had a quiet, organic quality. The large-format tile has an incredible tactile quality that feels like ripples in wet sand, and the alabaster sconces bring in warmth, glow, and the natural beauty of stone. Behind the vanity, vertical tile adds contrast and movement, balancing the soft curves of the surrounding surfaces.
The custom wood slatted screen is truly the defining architectural feature of the room. It gives our clients the privacy they wanted for the toilet area, but without the heaviness of a solid wall. Instead, it filters the view, extends the feeling of the room, and adds a layer of warmth and structure.
The finished space feels grounded, elevated, and intimate — a private spa retreat designed for daily renewal. And our favorite compliment? Our clients love the space so much that when they have friends over for dinner, they’ve been known to bring them upstairs for cocktails in the bathroom. Not the original scope, perhaps, but honestly, we consider that a win.
